“That's where I was born and raised. So my favorite thing to do in Tacony used to be visiting St. Leo's Church, where I was baptize and later attended Mass.”
Peter John Curry
St. Leo The Great Catholic Church opened its doors in 1894. For centuries it served Tacony’s Irish-Catholic community. Visible from I-95, its steeple is remembered by many as a sign of coming home. The church was destroyed in a fire in 2021, but its memory is maintained through stories and photographs shared by the Tacony community.
