The Stories of Tacony

This year we asked you… “What makes Tacony special?”

And you delivered! At community events, online, and through surveys the residents of Tacony told us about their favorite memories, the places they love, the little things that bring them joy, and the community that we’re all a part of.

Scroll down to read the stories of Tacony and to see the art that they inspired.

Do you have your own story to tell? We still want to hear it!

“One of my earliest memories of Tacony was visiting my Aunt, Uncle and Cousins for the OLC Carnival. I don't like rides like salt n pepper shakers, or rollercoasters, but I remember the food tents, where my Aunt volunteered, and sitting on the wall of a nearby house that had the half-grindstones along the top (still there, I think) while we ate our water ice.”

“That's where I was born and raised. So my favorite thing to do in Tacony used to be visiting St. Leo's Church, where I was baptize and later attended Mass, etc.”

“I enjoy when the community comes together to help one another or for special things during the holidays like parades and such.”

“Buying pretzels just before going over the Tacony bridge. Street vendors that sold soft pretzels like they did five for a dollar or something. In a brown bag, and listening to that song that they utilized for the Phillies and Tacony “In The Summertime,” by Mongo something maybe Mongo Jerry; I swear it would come on the radio every time we were just about to go over the bridge every Saturday.”
